Trade Me is New Zealand's largest Internet auction site, managed by Trade Me Ltd. It was founded in 1999 by New Zealand entrepreneur Sam Morgan and was acquired by Fairfax in 2006 for NZ$700 million.Trade Me officially went public on December 13, 2011 and became an independent entity.
Trade Me is an e-commerce platform founded by Sam Morgan in 1999 and is the largest online shopping platform in New Zealand. Similar to China's Taobao, Trade Me offers a variety of merchant categories such as apparel, electronic accessories, furniture and lifestyle products. It also offers online car sales, real estate classifieds, and online dating, all of which are ranked number one in New Zealand.
According to a 2018 survey on the online shopping habits of New Zealanders, about 50% people chose to shop on the Trade Me website, with Amazon accounting for 7% and Mighty Ape accounting for 5%.It is evident that Trade Me has a broad user base and influence in New Zealand.
Requirements for opening a store include: you must provide information about New Zealand or Australia when registering; the platform does not recommend cross-border e-commerce companies to deal in electronics; merchants need to be certified in order to sell electronics, but in reality, only merchants who meet the conditions of New Zealand's home country are certified; therefore, for Chinese merchants, they need to make sure that the products they sell are eligible to be listed on Trade Me's shelves.
Trade Me uses PayPal as a payment method. The commission is a flat rate of 7.95%. Hot products include toys, furniture, electronics (especially cell phones), branded apparel, automobiles, motorcycles and boat accessories. Requirements for entry include having a business license, a public account, and experience in the cross-border e-commerce industry, as well as providing a link to a store on Ebay, Amazon, Sizzler, Wish, etc. for review.
For logistics and transportation, Trade Me offers booking courier services and other shipping options such as Myfair Shipping. Sellers can also attract customers by streamlining the shipping process, offering free shipping services, and shipping estimates.
